Sitting Hare tile inc. postage
Size: 10cm x 10cm x 0.6cm (please allow for slight variations as for any handmade item).
Tiles are a satisfying kind of fusion between pottery and printing. They are made by cutting a block and pressing it into red earthenware clay. The low relief blocks are quite a challenge to make, and need to be tried out and adjusted repeatedly to get the flattened three dimensional designs right, carving the block more deeply where the marks come further forward. Once pressed they are washed with white slip which picks up the pattern, emphasises the intricacies of the impression and makes each tile slightly different. The tiles are then glazed. They fit in size and colour with many widely available background tiles. Other designs available at www.helenbarontiles.co.uk (new window).

About the Artist
I am a potter, tile maker, printmaker and mosaicist living and working on a farm in rural Hertfordshire, close to where I was born. I am at home in the English countryside and find myself drawn to native traditions in pottery and English rural life in my tiles, prints and mosaics.
